Hearthroot

Hearthroot

Hearthroot is a slow moving colossus born where rot and soil breathe together. Its body carries the weight of ages, thick, limbs wrapped in bark-like flesh, stretched and sagging as if molded by gravity itself. Veins of fibrous tissue crawl across its frame like exposed roots, pulsing with a fungal vitality. Every step compresses the earth beneath it, leaving the ground softened, darkened, and ready for new growth.

Its skull resembles a weathered carcass reclaimed by the forest, elongated, hollow eyed, and crowned with clusters of fungi that bloom directly from bone and muscle. These growths are not parasites, but symbiotes, feeding on Hearthroot’s warmth and decay while spreading spores that restore life to barren land. Thin tendrils and drip-like filaments hang from its body, oozing nutrient-rich matter that nourishes whatever survives in its wake.

Hearthroot is not aggressive by nature. It wanders ancient territories as a living hearth for the land, breaking down the old so something new may rise. Where it passes, forests eventually return thicker, stranger, and more resilient. To witness Hearthroot is to see destruction and creation bound into a single, patient force, a walking grave that carries the promise of rebirth.
